What is it exactly that moves people to move to Florida? The idea of spending a winter enjoying temperatures at a balmy 72 degrees appeals to many. But Florida’s financial benefits, such as the lack of state tax and a new amendment, are highly regarded by homebuyers as well.

No State Tax

It’s well known that Florida doesn’t apply a state tax – which entices many. Not only is Florida one of the few states that doesn’t apply an income tax, it also reaffirms this in its state Constitution, under Article VII. Furthermore, the State of Florida doesn’t tax residents and citizens’ incomes under the Florida Income and Inheritance Taxes amendment.

New Condominium Deductions

While homestead exemptions don’t apply to condominiums, Floridian lawmakers have found a way to save those who own them on their taxes through Florida Amendment 2. It helps to preserve a portion of the ‘Save Our Homes’ Amendment that allows for a cap on tax increases up to 10%. It passed in 2018.

The Perfect Price Point

Florida homebuyers are constantly in search of a condominium that’s affordable, stylish, and in a great location. And Sarasota is the place. The artful atmosphere that the area possesses bleeds into the living spaces here, ensuring that homebuyers have a variety to choose from. However, out of the many Sarasota condo residences, one stands out from the rest – BLVD Sarasota. It’s location between the Sarasota Bay and the Rosemary District puts future residents between waterfront views and the action and activity of Downtown Sarasota. Amenities such as a rooftop zero horizon swimming pool, a wine cellar with a tasting room, the esteemed Beach Bistro sister restaurant on the first floor of the condominium tower, and a Pet Lawn area only serve to increase the value. Despite its amenities and its amazing space alongside the Sarasota Bay, BLVD Sarasota residences start at $1.9 million.

New Development in Sarasota

Head to Sarasota’s downtown area, and within minutes, you’ll be surrounded by art, boutique stores, and unique dining experiences.  That’s how you know that you’re in the Rosemary District. In 1884, a land surveyor named Lewis Colson arrived with coworkers from the Florida Mortgage and Investment Company to what would later become Sarasota and collected vital data. Come 1885, Colson decided that he liked the area so much that he would live there. What came after that was a cultural renaissance, forged by the art, music, and dance of the locals.

The eclectic downtown district is where chefs show off their skills with wide-ranging ingredients, where artists show off their skills with splashes of color, and the waterfront sparkles with the light of the sun. But what skyrocketed this distinct downtown to the top of everyone’s ‘to visit’ list has to do with the district’s history.

Redevelopment of the Rosemary District began with the Rosemary District Plan, which restructured the area into a mostly residential zone. The addition of shops and restaurants, combined with the creation of residential housing in an area known for its artistic and cultural offerings has brought many people to the area. Even today, the Rosemary District continues to evolve, replacing worn-out fixtures with modern ones, revitalizing historical buildings, and adding new luxury residential offerings such as BLVD Sarasota.

The most exciting new addition will be quite dramatic. The Bay, located directly on Sarasota Bay adjacent to the Van Wezel performing arts center, will be one of the finest outdoor parks and recreational complexes in the country. The Bay will serve as Sarasota’s social centerpiece incorporating a variety of activities for the entire family.   Festivals and concerts will be held at the outdoor amphitheater continuing the city’s legacy of arts and entertainment. Couples can set out for a romantic night on the town dock their boat at The Bay. Head to the Municipal Auditorium and the Art Center Sarasota or to the highly acclaimed restaurants that dominate the Rosemary District. The Bay is not the only big thing coming to the area.   Keep your eye out for the new Quay Sarasota–an upcoming shopping, residence, business, and lifestyle center located adjacent to the new Westin Sarasota.

Even more exciting, BLVD Sarasota, with just 49 luxury condominiums, is currently under construction leading the renaissance of the area. It has brought an exciting energy to the city’s vibrant downtown arts district that Sarasota has never seen before, with the new Bay and Quay projects right around the corner.

People from all over the world come to Florida’s Cultural Coast to experience the art that makes this area so unique. Find out how to take on the Sarasota art scene like a local!

There’s no place that’s creative like Florida’s West Coast. Housing the ‘Sarasota Modern’ school of architectural design and serving as the winter home for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, the city of Sarasota is especially culture filled. Check out for some of these areas where artists are known to create and share their works.

The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall

The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall has been bringing Downtown Sarasota live acts from all over, including Broadway plays and ballet productions. The theater is so important to Sarasota’s cultural canvas, that it’s being considered for the future development of upcoming entertainment complex The Bay. Make sure not to miss events such as Bob Dylan and Eddie Izzard in October!

Campus Galleries at the Ringling College of Art and Design

See tomorrow’s artists, today at the six museums dotting the campus of this intuitively creative college. Featuring everything from guest artists and staff works, to senior theses. They were asked to ‘map’ their respective cities through art, sculpture, performance, and other creative endeavors; these works provide an image of the towns where they live.

Towels Court

Named by Coastal Living as one of the Top 10 Artist Colonies in North America, Towels Court is a shopping center where artists of all kinds gather to sell their works in their galleries. While the artists and their galleries tend to have their own hours of operation, you can find a majority of them accessible during the Gallery Walk, where artists and vendors sell crafts and food while live music plays in the background.

Art Center Sarasota

Serving as a multimodal unit for artists and purveyors of art for years, this is where art classes, artist interviews, gallery showings, and performances are shown. Check out the Salon D’Art, where you can meet with an artist and discuss their works while viewing them in a gallery showing.

Rosemary District

Funky and fabulous, the Rosemary District has been where Downtown Sarasota goes to get their culture. Keep your eye out for Italian Tradition, a restaurant that offers new takes on old Italian classics. Grab fresh produce and original part pieces at the Rosemary Sunset Market every Thursday evening. Within recent years, the Rosemary District has established itself as a business district as well, with the recent construction of open offices and workspaces, arts representation, and residence towers.
