April is one of the best times to be in Sarasota. The weather is mild and the city is full of cultural events. Spend a weekend checking out some of the best – we put our favorites below.

Sarasota Film Festival

One benefit to living in a town with one of the most famous film schools is enjoying the output of student projects and film culture. The Sarasota Film Festival has indeed benefitted from the presence of the Film School at the Ringling College of Art and Design.  The Sarasota Film Festival started on April 5th and runs through April 14th.

Ringling By The Bay

Come April, the weather reaches the perfect temperatures to spend an afternoon outdoors. The residents of Sarasota take advantage of this and gather at the Bayfront Gardens for a night of live music and lovely weather. Every other weekend brings a different artist to the Gardens’ stage, with April 15th having Phase 5 performing. This group’s ability to bring together the best of rock, jazz, and R&B makes for a great night.

41st Annual Siesta Fiesta

Head over to this special event on April 27th-28th in Siesta Key.  Only fourteen minutes away from Sarasota, Siesta Key is a haven on Florida’s West Coast.  With four bridges that lead guests and residents on and off of the island, the slow-paced island lifestyle suits many individuals.  This serves as the perfect conduit for creative energy. The result is a crafts show full of amazing artists and designers from across the country.

Print the Gaugin – Inspired Gardens at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens

The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens are known for defining the interplay between art and botany, with everything from featuring statues and topiary displays on their grounds to basing events off of famous artists. One of their many art classes Print the Gaugin – Inspired Gardens on April 26th, sets out to highlight the role that a famous Impressionist had with the natural world. Guests will learn of leaf and flower transfers and how to utilize these natural materials to make beautiful designs.

As Sarasota head’s into the high point of the season, area events and activities reach a fever pitch, and Sarasota finds itself with an events calendar stuffed full of ways to spend a weekend. Don’t do just one thing – see, taste, hear, and do it all, and stay in the residence that keeps you in the thick of it.
