The great weather doesn’t bring just culture seekers and permanent vacationers – it also heralds the beginning of spring training. The Baltimore Orioles migrated from chilly Maryland and nested at the Ed Smith Stadium to stretch their wings and play a few practice rounds before they take on the big leagues. Spring training benefits everyone – newer players get to show their stuff, older players can rehearse and strategize and fans can check out their favorite teams. The Orioles have plenty in store for Sarasota fans this season – check ahead and see what you can expect.

February 23d Game against the Minnesota Twins

The last time these two greats in baseball faced off against each other, the Twins conquered the Orioles in a 6 – 2 game, thanks to Twins right-hander Ryan Pressly keeping the Orioles from hitting until the eighth inning. Now the Orioles are back and looking for revenge at Ed Smith Stadium. Either the Twins will keep their track record or the Orioles will get what they came for on February 23rd – only way to know is to see the game for yourself!

Athletes and Artists Play for Kids Weekend

Music, art and baseball combine in this action packed weekend. From March 1st to March 3rd, fans can expect two games and two huge parties. On March 1st, the Orioles face off against the Tampa Bay Rays in what is sure to be a nail-biting match. That afternoon, Ed Smith Stadium will open its gates to music fans for the Nashville Music Row Comes to the Ballpark. This year, GRAMMY-winning hit maker Desmond Child joins MacKenzie Porter and other artists to play some of country’s greatest hits. Some of the proceeds from the event will fund the creation of the new Orioles Charitable Foundation Music & Arts Education Scholarships, which will sponsor arts students in Sarasota, Baltimore, and Nashville. Finally, the Orioles close out the weekend on March 3rd with a great game against the Detroit Tigers.
