May might mark the end of season in Florida, but for the locals who live in Sarasota and along Lido and Longboat Key, it’s the start of a season that brings in a truly unique visitor. They don’t arrive in a car or on a plane – they swim right up to the shore. They’re sea turtles, and they’re part of what makes living in cities such as Sarasota so amazing. While nesting season takes place from May 1st to October 31st, make sure to follow these rules so that you can coexist with sea turtles.

When sea turtles hatch from their nests, they follow the moon’s light to make their way into the water. Science has shown that sea turtle hatchlings often mistake artificial light sources such as flashlights or street lamps for the light of the moon, and begin to stray towards it. In doing so, they fail to make their way to the ocean. When you limit your use of light sources near the water, you protect sea turtles and ensure that they can thrive in their environment.

While nothing can beat a romantic stroll along the beach with the stars and the moon shining above, reducing the amount of nighttime beach walks that you take or staying only on the sidewalk by the beach prevents you from potentially damaging any turtle nests. If you want to see turtles hatching from their nest late at night, attending one of the turtle walks with the many nature centers throughout the area is a great solution. Not only do you get to witness a turtle laying its eggs in a way that is noninvasive to the animal, you also get to enjoy background context provided by biologists and turtle experts. Some of these walks consist of finding and observing nests that have already been laid while listening to an expert offer information and their experience, while others allow you to observe a sea turtle laying its eggs from a safe distance.

It goes without saying, but when you see a sea turtle nest, make sure to observe from a few yards away. Touching, holding, or playing with a sea turtle is never allowed. Doing the same with turtle eggs can damage them as well. Make sure to keep pets away from sea turtle nests as well.

The beauty and grace of a sea turtle often captures the hearts of all who come across it. In order to further ensure their safety, the State of Florida has taken up laws in order to protect these creatures. It’s why areas throughout the state utilize sea turtle friendly features such as shaded lighting, and why residents love them so much. Here in Sarasota, residents can enjoy the beauty of nature and the luxuries of condominium living.

Cheers to Sarasota for earning a spot on U.S. News & World Report’s ‘25 Best Places To Live in the U.S. in 2019’. Sarasota is wonderful in so many ways, ranging from the perfect beaches to the city’s cultural landscape. Get swept up in the area and learn what makes this gulf side town so amazing.

There’s no doubt about it, Sarasota is known for its beautiful beaches. We’re not just saying that – Dr. Beach himself named Siesta Beach on Siesta Key as the #1 Beach in America for 2017. Even if you don’t make it to Siesta Key, you can enjoy the brilliant blue waters and white sands that surround Sarasota. Dogs even can get in on the fun at Brohard Paw Park, the only dog park/beach in Sarasota County.

Stemming from the city’s history as the winter home of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, the thrilling cultural experiences that make up Sarasota can’t be beaten. That’s another reason that it earns a spot-on U.S. News & World Report’s ‘25 Best Places to Live in The U.S. in 2019’! If you pay a visit to Ca d’Zan, you’ll find a museum and auditorium bundled up in what was once the home of John Ringling. Even visiting a local farmers market reveals the artistic works of local creatives.

It may be on U.S. News & World Report’s ‘25 Best Places To Live in the U.S. in 2019’, but to us, Sarasota will always be number one. You won’t want to spend a minute away from this cultural and natural hotspot, and you don’t have to, thanks to the construction of one residential tower.

This is the time of year to go all out. Fortunately, the city of Sarasota is well equipped to handle it, with a selection of firework shows to view, barbecues to join, and some of the best beaches around to celebrate them on. Don’t miss out as Sarasota works to light up the sky – make plans to visit one of these areas for your Independence Day celebration.

Sarasota Bay

The best spot to watch the city’s firework shows is from Sarasota Bay, and there’s no spot better than Bayfront Park. Come early and grab a picnic blanket for a star-spangled night out on the grass, or enjoy dinner at one of the restaurants nearby. Marina Jack’s has waterfront views so that you can enjoy the fireworks with dinner and drinks, but make sure to make reservations in advance.

Siesta Key

This little island to the left of Sarasota celebrates the Fourth of July in their own fun way. This year marks the 29th Annual Fourth of July Fireworks Display, which is held nearby the volleyball courts on the island. Enjoy watching the fireworks light up the sky and see the show from the beach, the Intracoastal, or the north end of the island.

BLVD Sarasota

It’s never too early to start making your plans for next year’s Fourth of July. The best way to view the firework shows is to go face to face with them. As they light up the sky, you’ll get the most spectacular views from 18 stories up directly from the comfort of your residence. Upon completion at the beginning of 2020, you’ll have plenty of space to see the fireworks show with – an expansive floor to ceiling glass window, and you even have a balcony to step out and get a closer look at the show that no one else will have. Best of all, with direct proximity to the bay, you’re going to get an amazing view once construction is finished with this project.

It’s only fitting that the Sunshine State would have jaw-dropping sunsets. Thanks to its prime location on the west coast of Florida, Sarasota is known for having especially gorgeous ones. Whether you’re pursuing the theatrics of an urban sunset, want the peace and seclusion of watching the day end among nature, or you’re looking for something even more private, you have your selection of some of the area’s best spots when you want to watch twilight fall.

Siesta Beach

Plenty of paddle boarders and kayakers get a front row seat to this natural phenomenon. Rent one from the local shops at Siesta Beach, then head around Sarasota’s natural areas that showcase everything from the beauty of the dunes to the serenity of the ocean. It’s all leading up to the moment when you get to view the gorgeous sunsets from the privacy of nature. The beach here is great to watch the sun set as well. Pick a spot on the sugary white sand and enjoy the magic.

Rooftop Bar and Eats

For the more metropolitan, the drama of the sun setting over the city skyline can’t be beat. Rooftop Bar and Eats has been raved over by diners and culture auteurs alike. It’s easy to see why – when you’re served freshly made cocktails and tapas with a sunset backdrop worthy of an Instagram feed, it’s hard to not fall in love. Keep your phone camera out to film the sun slipping under the city’s horizon.

John Ringling Causeway

If there’s such thing as a bridge with a history, it’s the John Ringling Causeway Bridge. It’s actually the third John Ringling Causeway Bridge to exist, with the original serving as a gift from John Ringling to the city of Sarasota. It’s the gift that keeps on giving today, with its phenomenal views of the city at its crest, its purpose as a path for runners, bikers, and walkers, and its purpose in directly connecting residents to Siesta Key. Its height makes it a fabtastic spot to catch a sunset, with the boats below helping to set the scene.

It’s impossible to leave Sarasota without catching a view of the sunset. This artistic town is made to showcase the evening glow, whether from a rooftop bar, from the beach, or from one of the tallest spots in town. Soon to be added to the ranks of sunset viewing spaces is a residential tower as beautiful as it is functional. Its interiors are made to showcase the outside view, with expansive terraces and large windows in the great room. The best of these sunset watching spots combine a private view with the space of an upscale terrace area. Coming soon to Sarasota, BLVD Sarasota includes features designed to heighten your sunset watching experience, such as balconies and multiple windows. This may be the best view of them all – and all to yourself.

Intrepid types will enjoy the Seafood Display, topped high with snow crab legs and shrimp cocktails, while more classic diners will love the house made French toast and fresh fruit.

Lolita Tartine

Lolita Tartine has been the gathering spot for Sarasota’s art world, thanks to its approach to modern French design and modern French cooking. The building’s bright color scheme and cozy dining area gives the sense of a café in Provence, with the menu reflecting high-end Parisian restaurants. When the city’s creators need a pick me up or a whole breakfast plate to start their morning, they head here. No one can turn down spinach, feta, and walnut crepes alongside café au lait and fluffy eggs served alongside croissants.

Station 400

If there’s any one spot that’s a tribute to Sarasota’s endless creativity, it’s Station 400. Diners get a sense of this when they first enter the restaurant, where the staff will tell them of the building’s origins as a train station. Station 400 keeps its predecessors architecture, offering a combination of old and new that plays out right on their menu. Aficionados crave the cinnamon roll pancakes topped with vanilla bean maple syrup, while the truffle eggs benedict is nothing to pass up as well.

There are endless ways to have fun in Sarasota, and brunch is just the start. From shopping to art galleries to outdoor activities, there’s always something new and exciting here. Sarasota is so full of things to do that you won’t want to miss a thing. From art shows to music festivals to dining events – it’s no wonder why everyone sees this west coast city as Florida’s Cultural Coast. Whether you’re getting up early for paddleboard yoga or catching a little caffeine to stay awake for a late night performance, you’ll need your coffee fix for sure. Sarasota is full of great cafes and brewers that range from the casual to the culinary, and it’s worth trying them all. We picked three to get you started.

Pastry Art Bakery Café

This café likes to position itself as ‘Sarasota’s Living Room’, and that just may be so. When you step in to grab your morning joe, you’ll find everyone from businessmen to freelance artists raving over the amazing coffee here. The baristas at PABC will brew up a variety of cups from lattes to frappuccinos, with flavor mix-ins if you ask for them. If you order one of their lattes, make sure to get your phone out to grab a photo of their signature latte art. Whatever you order, make sure to grab a blueberry muffin or Danish pastry with it. After all, they don’t have the Pastry Chef, Assistant Pastry Chef, and bakers in the back for nothing.

The Green Bean Coffee House

Both health nuts and coffee lovers can find a happy medium in The Green Bean Coffee House. Their business model involves ensuring that they’re able to give back to the community in everything that they do, and they do it well. The staff here prides themselves on working with local farmers and small businesses to create the items on their menu, from the homemade ice cream to the caramel hot chocolate. Local artists, yoga studios, and homeopathic oil experts also host their creations on the walls and at live events here.

The Toasted Mango Café Deluxe

More of a sit-down restaurant than a coffee shop, the Toasted Mango Café Deluxe is still a great place to grab some coffee, whether early in the morning or late in the evening. Grab a friend after a morning run for a Breakfast Banana Split topped with mangoes (what else?), or enjoy having a table to yourself and a book to read over a Sarasota Omelet and some bacon. Of course, their coffee is served with a smile, too!

One of the best parts of Sarasota is how close everything is. That means that the majority of the city is close enough to walk from place to place so you won’t have to miss a thing. Head from yoga at Siesta Key Beach to an artist’s talk at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, or end a visit from the Dr. Joseph Halton House with a walk to The Toasted Mango Café Deluxe. When you’re done for the day, head home to Sarasota’s most exciting luxury residence tower.

It’s no surprise that the residents of Sarasota have a deep appreciation for art and culture. The city’s history has been influenced by true artisans, from the minimalist styles of Chelsea Dunbar to the sharp aesthetics of Sarasota Modern that was forged by the likes of Castner & Castner. Sarasota has evolved to be somewhat of a destination for creatives in interior design of all styles and schools. Three, in particular, stand out on Sarasota’s social scene for their impact on the area’s design, both past and present.

Chelsea Dunbar

The first thing that stands out when you view one of the layouts from Dunbar’s designers is how she applies minimalist aesthetics to her floor plans. Utilizing pops of darker colors in a light room is one of her favorite tricks – it grants depth to an area, allowing them to make a room seem even bigger. Another is utilizing the color scheme of the area outside of the residence. The work that her interior design group, Blu Interiors, has recently done brings in the blues, taupes, and creams of the waterfront, the land, and the sky outside. Dunbar and her designs have even appeared on HGTV’s Property Brothers on multiple occasions.

Castner & Castner

Founded in 1979, this father and son duo have been taking on the Manatee County area by storm with both their unique furniture offerings and their luxurious approach to style and design. Flipping through their look book, you’ll find a combination of everything from mod to French countryside, with a touch of British Isles-type design. Their secret lies in being a local staple for years. This has allowed them to really learn about their customer, their likes and dislikes, their approach to color and design, and what their principal aesthetics. When your buyer is your neighbor, it’s easier to create something beautiful for them!

Kurt Lucas

Known for his incorporation of pops of color into bold contemporary designs, Lucas has cut a prominent figure in Sarasota’s interior design scene. As the president of JKL Design Group, he certainly should. Many of Sarasota’s finest keep an eye on what Lucas takes interest in regarding aesthetics, as it’s sure to take on Sarasota’s scene in a few months. His pioneering approach to shape and color is what makes him perfect for some of Sarasota’s most daring new projects.

You can find Lucas’ mark on some of Sarasota’s most prominent buildings, from the industrial-meets-contemporary style of Dry Dock Waterfront Grill to the coastal design that dominates Summer House Steak & Seafood. One place that exhibits Lucas’ tastes like nowhere else is the new luxury residence center on the edge of Sarasota’s trendy downtown: BLVD Sarasota. A clean white exterior shells an interior that’s crafted with natural color palettes and designer details.
