It’s always nostalgic to see our local natives make the limelight. So, do you know which NFL football player from Sarasota will be playing football this weekend in Super Bowl 2020?

If you guessed Richie James, then you are correct! A Wide Receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, Richie was born September 5, 1995, was born in Sarasota, Florida and attended Riverview High School. The 49ers selected James in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft, 240th overall.

James is a small receiver at 5-foot-10, 183 pounds, but he was an incredible player for Middle Tennessee and is about as convincing as a technical long shot can be. In a league where a player like Tarik Cohen has utility, so too should James, whose open-field running skills are off the chart. His 2017 season was wrecked by a broken collarbone, but in his redshirt freshman and sophomore seasons, James combined for 212 receptions for 2,959 yards and 20 touchdowns in 26 games, adding 497 yards (9.8 YPC) and five touchdowns on the ground. As sharp as his skills are, James’ athleticism is a bit less convincing with a 4.48-second 40-yard dash and 6.87-second three-cone, but James is probably no worse of a prospect than fellow slot prospect Trent Taylor was a year ago.

BLVD Sarasota will be cheering on Richie James this Sunday during Super Bowl 2020 and I’m sure all our local Sarasota residents will too. BLVD Sarasota, a new condominium development, is now rising over the Sarasota Bay.

April is one of the best times to be in Sarasota. The weather is mild and the city is full of cultural events. Spend a weekend checking out some of the best – we put our favorites below.

Sarasota Film Festival

One benefit to living in a town with one of the most famous film schools is enjoying the output of student projects and film culture. The Sarasota Film Festival has indeed benefitted from the presence of the Film School at the Ringling College of Art and Design.  The Sarasota Film Festival started on April 5th and runs through April 14th.

Ringling By The Bay

Come April, the weather reaches the perfect temperatures to spend an afternoon outdoors. The residents of Sarasota take advantage of this and gather at the Bayfront Gardens for a night of live music and lovely weather. Every other weekend brings a different artist to the Gardens’ stage, with April 15th having Phase 5 performing. This group’s ability to bring together the best of rock, jazz, and R&B makes for a great night.

41st Annual Siesta Fiesta

Head over to this special event on April 27th-28th in Siesta Key.  Only fourteen minutes away from Sarasota, Siesta Key is a haven on Florida’s West Coast.  With four bridges that lead guests and residents on and off of the island, the slow-paced island lifestyle suits many individuals.  This serves as the perfect conduit for creative energy. The result is a crafts show full of amazing artists and designers from across the country.

Print the Gaugin – Inspired Gardens at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens

The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens are known for defining the interplay between art and botany, with everything from featuring statues and topiary displays on their grounds to basing events off of famous artists. One of their many art classes Print the Gaugin – Inspired Gardens on April 26th, sets out to highlight the role that a famous Impressionist had with the natural world. Guests will learn of leaf and flower transfers and how to utilize these natural materials to make beautiful designs.

As Sarasota head’s into the high point of the season, area events and activities reach a fever pitch, and Sarasota finds itself with an events calendar stuffed full of ways to spend a weekend. Don’t do just one thing – see, taste, hear, and do it all, and stay in the residence that keeps you in the thick of it.

BLVD Sarasota will have 49 residences.

Core Development has broken ground on its BLVD Sarasota condominium project in the city’s Rosemary District.

According to a press release, Core is finishing site work and is starting construction. The initial phase included demolition of a temporary sales gallery.
The 49 residences in the 18-story building will range from 3,550 to 3,900 square feet. They are priced from $1.9 million to $3.5 million.

The building will include two two-story penthouse residences that are over 5,200 square feet. Both of the penthouses have been sold and nearly half of the building is under contract, according to a release. Sales began in mid-2017.

“We couldn’t be more proud of the team that has worked to bring this building from concept to reality,” says Core Development President Kevin Daves in a statement. “The goal was to combine the comforts of single-family home style living with the conveniences of a condominium.”
